| Reiki
is an invisible subtle energy. The name ‘Reiki’ is a Japanese
word which can be translated to mean ‘Universal Life Energy’.
What we know as Reiki comes from ancient Sanskrit texts which were discovered
and developed by Dr Mikao Usui during the late 1800s in Japan. Eastern
medicine recognises and works with energy or ‘life-force’
and similarly, Reiki used this energy to stimulate the body in its own
healing process, increasing the energy flow throughout the whole body.
Reiki energy is used
to facilitate and promote the body’s natural regenerative processes.
It is usually transferred with the practitioner’s hands resting
gently on the body. Clothes are not removed as energy will pass easily
through them. The treatment is given with the patient lying down in a
relaxed environment and lasts about half an hour.
A recipient may feel
a wide range of sensations such as gentle tingling, heat, cold, or in
fact feel nothing at all. At times there may be a release of emotion as
part of the re-balancing process, and this is considered healthy.
A treatment is perfectly
safe and can be used alongside conventional medical treatments. It can
never do harm as the practitioner merely acts as a channel for the energy,
which will act where it is needed and the recipient will take only what
is required.
Reiki energy relaxes
and de-stresses and can be used on people, animals and plants.
The ability to channel
Reiki cannot be learned from a book. A student has to go through a special
initiation performed by a Reiki Master to ‘attune’ them to
the Reiki energy.
Anyone can be attuned
to Reiki energy regardless of their spiritual or religious beliefs. Additional
stages of attunements and the use of ‘symbols’ enhances the
ability to utilise the Reiki energy in different ways.

A
few Things to Know About Reiki
Reiki does not heal –- It channels the energy to
allow the person’s body to heal itself.
Reiki Treatments should never given away –- The
gift of Reiki should not be demeaned by being given away. Some exchange
should take place to put value on the practitioner’s time and energy.
Reiki can occasionally be an uncomfortable experience –-
There can be physical or mental problems surfacing during treatment. The
body needs to resolve these before harmony can be achieved.
It
may appear that nothing has happened, that the problem is still there
–- The energy might be shifting things on a deeper level or healing
something unexpected. The priorities of the subconscious mind are sometimes
different to the conscious mind. The higher self will have its own agenda
and will direct the energy to where it is needed most. Clearing up the
symptoms that are worrying your conscious self might come fairly low down
this list of priorities.
Sometimes an old ailment might re-appear or a present one initially seem
to get worse. This is just the body starting the healing process. We often
de-sensitise and bury problems, but they still exist somewhere. Reiki
helps to release them and kick start the bodies own healing process.
